Website Audit for Nonprofits
Is your website doing its job?
DO THIS QUICK AUDIT FROM YOUR MOBILE PHONE OR TABLET
You only have a few seconds to make a first impression and engage a visitor. Make it count by having a responsive, easy-to-navigate and reader-friendly site. Your website can be your best friend or your worst enemy all depending on the design of this useful tool. To help you evaluate if your website is doing its job, I’ve put together a list of questions to ask yourself as you review your site and its effectiveness.
Is your website responsive/mobile-friendly? Does it look great on any screen size?
With many different technology options, your website is viewed from a plethora of screen sizes/types. Make sure your website looks great on all of them!
Is the design intuitive and easy to navigate?
Can readers easily find the information they are looking for?
Do you know the overall goal of your organization’s site?
It could be sharing events, mission, soliciting donations or finding volunteers. Make sure that message/goal is clear to the reader.
Is the information accurate and easy to digest?
Think easy to skim with headings, subheadings, short paragraphs and bullets.
Do you have a specific page for donors?
Is donating a seamless process? If it’s not easy, you will deter potential donors.
Do you collect email addresses on your website for email communication?
People want to be in the know. Give them a way to sign up for updates. (And then make sure you actually update them!)
Are you blogging with a purpose?
Share your client success stories. Share impact data. Share event recaps. Share to keep your readers engaged!
Do you have analytics in place?
And more importantly, do you understand them?
Do you have a built-in search function?
Again, make it easy for your readers to find what they are looking for.
Is your site optimized for search engines?
Yes, those heading tags are more than just a pretty font! They help viewers find YOU when completing a simple Google search.
If you answered “NO” to any of the questions, I’d recommend prioritizing a solution on how you can get these to a “YES” as soon as possible.
Your website presence is a key communication component for your organization. It needs to be the central hub that all other print and digital tactics link back to. It is critical to ensure clients, donors and community members have a great experience and can easily find what they are looking for when visiting your site.
